Methamphetamine Residue Swab
Reagent System: Sodium Nitroprusside
An affordable, reliable, convenient, two-step residue swab for the detection of
methamphetamine residue.
A Note to Home Inspectors:
Generally, our tests are
used to determine if a substance encountered in the field by a law
enforcement office is indeed methamphetamine and not some other
innocuous substance. Basically, they are used as a quick and easy test
to presumptively identify a substance as a particular drug without the
use of a GCMS unit or more expensive, less portable lab equipment. It's
a methamphetmine specific test, so it generally doesn't function well
for any other application. What the test will do is this: it will
indicate if there is methampheatmine (the completed product
itself) on the specific area you are testing. Unfortunately, the test
is incapable of telling you most thngs that home inspector need to
know, such as:
- has meth ever been used in the house
- has meth ever been sold in the house
- has meth ever been manufactured / cooked in the house
- have the walls, floors and
ceilings been exposed to -or- are they contaminated with any kind of
chemical as a result of the manufacturing process
The next level of difficulty
with our tests is related the the industry standards of the minimum
acceptable levels of methamphetamine (or any of it's contaminates)
These levels are measured in parts per billion, and out tests are
simply not designed for (nor are capable of) "hitting" on any amount of
reactive substance (in this case, methamphetamine) found in quantities
of less than 100 – 500 micrograms. Unfortunately, we've learned these
lessons the hard way.
The third issue is that the
contaminates left behind by the methamphetamine manufacturing / cooking
process is generally not meth itself, but iodine and/or other chemical
by products, and our test is simply not formulated to react with these
substances.
Finally, to our knowledge, our products have not been tested, evaulated or in any way certified by either the NACHI and STAHI.
